Westport designer to open two Greenwich shops

Saks Fifth Avenue may be setting trends in more than fashion.
The company opted last year to expand its Greenwich footprint to three stores, with the third opening next year. Now Westport’s Gilles Clement has also chosen to open separate locations within a few blocks in Greenwich.
The company looked at retail spaces on East Elm Street, where Saks’ shoe store opened this fall, but ended up with two spots on East Putnam Avenue. Wrapping now covers the windows at both locations, along with the company’s new logo and revised brand name. It was known in Westport as House of Clement, but will now go by Gilles Clement Designs, according to Kim Meier, the company’s marketing director.
The Westport store opened in 2010 will remain, but the flagship location will be in Greenwich at 120 E. Putnam Ave. once it opens next February, she said. The second Greenwich space will be Gilles Clement Gallery at 45 E. Putnam Ave. It will open ahead of the flagship store with its first event scheduled for Dec. 8. Some of the gallery’s featured artists, such as Vicki DaSilva, David Hollier, Clement-Kamena, Robin Austin, Tim Okemura, James Verbicky and David Datuna, who has been featured at the Smithsonian, will attend.
